This question has intrigued, poked, and fascinated the scientists and researchers since forever until a bunch of them decided to undertake a detailed, scientific study of the behavior of this ‘crazy creature’ the human is!  Newton once said it is more difficult to make sense of the behavior of humans than it is to make sense of cosmic planets!

‘This is because we ‘humans’ usually don’t behave in a manner that maximizes our self-interest or make a choice that is the most rational. Rather, we are affected by the arbitrary contexts that make us ‘feel’ a certain way, our opinions, biases, memories, emotions. Also, our behavior is usually a response to how choices are presented to us.

Thank Herbert Simon (1978),  Amos Tversky, Daniel Kahneman (2002), and Richard Thaler (2017) for putting something as complex and abstract as human behavior into a more structured paradigm called Behavioral Science.  From Brands to public policy, from forming habits to bringing about a cultural change, Behavioral Science today is used across all the domains as a paradigm to understand and influence human instincts, behavior, and actions!

A manager attending a 1-day workshop on ‘Building Better Teams’ might forget most of what is learned soon after the workshop and even if remembered, would find it hard to implement it in one go! And eventually, life (in this case work) will happen!
