Science of making your organization 1% better week-on-week
Science Behind UpTroop!
Why do we do what we do? What are our triggers to act & react?
This question has intrigued, poked, and fascinated the scientists and researchers since forever until a bunch of them decided to undertake a detailed, scientific study of the behavior of this ‘crazy creature’ the human is! Newton once said it is more difficult to make sense of the behavior of humans than it is to make sense of cosmic planets!
‘This is because we ‘humans’ usually don’t behave in a manner that maximizes our self-interest or make a choice that is the most rational. Rather, we are affected by the arbitrary contexts that make us ‘feel’ a certain way, our opinions, biases, memories, emotions. Also, our behavior is usually a response to how choices are presented to us.
Thank Herbert Simon (1978), Amos Tversky, Daniel Kahneman (2002), and Richard Thaler (2017) for putting something as complex and abstract as human behavior into a more structured paradigm called Behavioral Science. From Brands to public policy, from forming habits to bringing about a cultural change, Behavioral Science today is used across all the domains as a paradigm to understand and influence human instincts, behavior, and actions!
At UpTroop, We take behavioral science into spaces of organizational development & talent transformation. We create a meaningful impact on teams, managers & organizations - people get 1% better week-on-week and take micro-steps towards a continuous state of excellence.
People make choices in their workspace that they think they control, rather than the ones that are ‘imposed’. Directives and Imposed choices aren’t particularly effective in driving sustained behavior change. For instance, a manager is expected to delegate. But the manager will only delegate effectively & meaningfully when she wants to delegate and not when she is ‘persuasively’ asked to do so. People like to have control of their choices and don’t want to feel like someone else is controlling them.
UpTroop enables people to make organic positive choices and that has a compounding impact on performance & succes of teams and organizations.
Using behavioral science, ML, and psychology-backed interventions, we nudge and influence the behavior of people in a manner that is not restricting but empowering, not forced but subtle, not in form of lectures and training but through small, insightful, practical action points - the ‘micro steps’
These micro-steps have a direct impact on retention, engagement, and organizational performance - and collectively creates a continuous state of excellence in an organization.
Rich interactive with our personalized coaching bot Y.O.D.A - Your On-Demand Ally prompts individuals with micro-learning interventions, nudges & resources. These interactions are contextualized based on where people and the teams need support & when. They are on-demand to ensure that people do not see development as a chore. These prompts are embedded into an individual's routines without requiring them to deviate from their work schedule.
Over time into translate into predictable behavioral shift that enables your people to drive the organization through the most dynamic environments. Every individual takes strides towards shared finish lines.
Why do we do what we do!?
Why are some teams more cohesive than others? How is a cohesive work culture created? Why do some managers bond well with the team? Only if the answers could be ‘discovered’ in those nice, long training sessions so that you could apply those ideas too!
Employee nurturing requires a seismic shift today given that millennials comprise 35% of the workforce with one in five of those managing teams. Given the new realities of working, disruptive forces, hybrid, and remote working, the conventional ‘sage on stage’ programs alone may not get to desired outcomes.
For instance, organizations invest a lot of resources to develop managers, and figure out what can be improved and how can they create a high-performing culture in their teams and organizations.
Annually, companies spend close to $370 billion on training globally. The age range of an average manager is reducing. Yet 58% of managers have never received proper leadership training! Also, rarely do organizations see expected transformations.
This is because investments and intentions don’t automatically translate into outcomes. There is always a ‘knowing-doing’ gap that exists. While there can be many reasons for this gap, one is that ‘for instance, managers are crazy busy humans’ and the seemingly simple ‘tasks’ may seem overly daunting while handling competing priorities, and balancing short-term goals with long-term ones.
Amidst the ‘busy’ness of the day, it is effortlessly easy to forget the little actions that the manager is supposed to take, for example, checking on the well-being of her direct reports; having a conversation with them about their personal goals, or reminding them that they and their work is valued. Often as a manager, she gets caught in the ‘self-limiting’ patterns of her behavior on day to day basis that hinders her connection and communication with her team.
Add to it the fact that, She finds it daunting to apply her offsite and beyond work training experience to their real work. Consequently, The change in management style and re-vamping of her approach seems like an overwhelming thesis to embark on. And it takes more than just the ‘training’, live sessions, and team outings to break them
Breaking these self-limiting patterns of behaviors can be rewarding in terms of almost every aspect of people development, culture building, performance enhancement, succession planning, and leadership development.
Nudging towards Constructive Behavior for Organization’s success
Enhanced Microlearning, Personalized Coaching bot, Quizzes and contextualized mini case studies, and nudging with simple, self-paced, effortless interventions - go to realms where traditional training cannot, that is at the root of whole human behavior: habits. We not only help people build new behavioral patterns but also help sustain them.
Here’s how we enable a lasting change in people and teams.
5 Nudge Rule
We not only help people take micro-steps but also create new habits and sustain them. This is done through our 5 nudge rule. For instance, you want your team to have a more collaborative culture. YODA will make sure it nudges you and the team 5 times in different ways. You might be nudged to convey the larger vision to your team which will make it easier for your team members to feel aligned with the task at hand. You would also be suggested to ask your teammates what excites them about their work. Simulataneously your team will nudged and asked in a fun, interactive way ‘how would you like to support one of your team mates today’. And all of this without becoming overbearing and interfering in anyone’s routine!
Simplified Action Plan
We reduce the size of a seemingly complex task and ask into smaller bite-sized chunks that go to people at a time most convenient to them to enact upon. We call them micro-steps. A manager attending a 1-day workshop on ‘Building Better Teams’ might forget most of what is learned soon after the workshop and even if remembered, would find it hard to implement it in one go! And eventually, life (in this case work) will happen!
We overcome the forgetting curve and ‘work comes first’ syndrome by breaking down the complex concepts into simple actions e.g reminding her to ask about the well-being of her team. Or give a positive stroke to a team member on something good they accomplished or demonstrated.

We keep the interactions extremely personalized, customized, and contextualized to suit the individual’s challenges. Y.O.D. A takes into consideration the competency, challenge, role & goals of every individual.
